A very unique project has been completed on the IKEA roof in Utrecht. In 2013, IKEA Utrecht's retail space was expanded by about 12,000 m². In addition to expanding the store itself, a new parking garage was also created, with space for 1300 cars. The municipality did not want the expansion to eliminate the existing athletic fields. In order to provide a solution to this problem, the City of Utrecht decided to install two artificial grass fields and a clubhouse on the roof of the new garage. This is the world's third football pitch sited on top of a roof.
